2017’s Top Africa Destinations
The New Year often means a fresh start and with most of us having a new allocation of Holiday to look forward to it is often the time that people start to plan out the year aheads travel. Our most frequently meted out piece of advice is to plan early, many of the camps we use, from the best value all the way through to the ultra luxurious, are small and personal which is a feature that adds to your experience, it does however mean that the “best times” to visit are booked out quickly leaving you with less choices on the table.
We often struggle to know where to even start narrowing down our options from all the great possibilities our there, even in Africa, so if you are considering a trip to one of our incredible destinations this may help to inspire you.
If Africa is not on your list for 2017…well, why not!?
The Central Kalahari – Botswana
If you are looking for an escape from the winter then this is a fantastic option, the Central Kalahari and the Pans come into life with the rains and January – March is by far the best time to visit. When combined with the rest of Botswana it can offer excellent value for money as other parts of the country such as the Okavango Delta are in low season. As with much of Africa the green season brings some great special offers and while you can expect some rain the sunshine and warmth will be a welcome break from our long winters.
Kruger and Surrounds – South Africa
Simply one of the best safari destinations in Africa, but only for those that know where to stay! This is a very different experience for the large wilderness areas in the rest of Southern Africa, it can be accused of being over commercial or crowded however, not if you know where to go….for those in the know it offers both fantastic game viewing and unparalleled comfort in luxurious accommodation. Along with the fact that South Africa is still offering the best value for money in Africa means that this is definitely on our list for 2017!
Damaraland – Namibia
Damaraland is one of the most scenic and stunning parts of Namibia, which says a lot considering how this is possibly Africa’s most scenically stunning country. Damaraland is part of one of the oldest deserts in the world but due to the network of dry river beds and a few sparse water sources it has become home to some of the toughest species in Africa that have evolved to be able to survive in these harsh environs, highlight species include; Rhino, Elephant, Oryx and Giraffe to name a few.
Seychelles
For those looking for a beach stay, whether you be flying out simply for an exotic beach holiday or an add on to a safari in Africa then the Seychelles is definitely the place to be in 2017… With everything from large elegant resorts and villa only properties to private islands this is a great destinations for those wanting a beach break. Having been lucky enough to spend quite a bit of time in the Seychelles I can honestly say that this is one of the few island nations that I really want to go back to and explore further. It is the perfect place for combining two different places in order to break up your stay or if you prefer to stay put then there are plenty of options on the largest island Mahe.
Laikipia and Lewa – Kenya
Central Kenya is fast becoming one of our favourite places in East Africa. With a number of private concessions offering really interesting and different wilderness activities and some amazing conservation work being done in this part of the country, specifically with Rhino populations, this really is the place to be. Along with game drives there is everything from sleepouts and nature treks to helicopter and horseback safaris in an area that in the past has been truly underrated.
