Chongwe has been around for a long time and is still owned and run by the Leibenburg family who maintain the ethos that it is the safari that comes first, a view that we strongly support, this is not to say that the accommodation and service suffer though and it excels at providing a great overall experience.
With great guiding and the usual range of activities to be found in the Lower Zambezi this is a great option for longer stays. It is also possible to link Chongwe with its sister properties Kasaka and Tsika island in a lodge to lodge canoe trip which we really like.
The only down side that we can think of is that it is located just outside the park and there are an increasing number of more basic camps to Chongwe’s west which is making the area of the park the camp utilises more busy than the camps inside the park. However, when the location, cost and safari experience are all considered this is a really good option…
