Duration: 9 Nights
When: Between July and November
Snapshot: A great itinerary covering two of Zambia’s premier parks, getting into some really nice remote areas of both parks. If you want to shun the crowds and enjoy both walking and driving safaris then this is a good starting point. The itinerary is also really good value for the standard of accommodation.
Itinerary
Day 1 – Central Kafue
Arrive at Lusaka airport, here you will be met in the arrivals hall by your driver who will drive you to Mukambi Lodge, this is about a 3 hour drive (dependent on traffic in Lusaka). Here you will spend the next 2 nights.
Day 2 – Central Kafue
Mukambi is in a good position to start getting to know the Kafue, the game in this area is good year round and while it is in the “main area” it is one of Africas least visited parks so definitely not busy. We suggest one day on safari here before heading to Busanga.
Day 3 – Busanga Plains, Kafue
Today your guide will drive you to the remote Busanga Plains in the north of the national park where you will stay for 3 nights at Mukambi Plains Camp. The drive up is a game drive through some of the most untouched areas in Africa, on the way you will get your first glimpses of what this place has to offer.
Day 4 and 5 – Busanga Plains, Kafue
The Busanga Plains is a seasonal flood plain and is only accessible for four months of the year (read more here). BUT, when it is accessible it is one of Africa’s best safari destinations. Get out and explore the area on foot and by vehicle, look for predators including Lion and Cheetah and some of the finest Antelope on the continent.
Day 6 – South Luangwa
Leaving the Kafue today you will be driven by your guide to the local airstrip for your flight from the Busanga Plains to Lusaka where you will connect on to Mfuwe. Here you will be met by your guide and driven to Lion Camp where you will spend the next 4 nights exploring the northern part of this fantastic park.
Day 7 to 9 – South Luangwa
This is one of the most remote parts of the national park and arguably one of the most attractive, as the name would suggest the area is home to an incredibly healthy Lion population as well as all the rest of the wildlife that you would expect in the South Luangwa.
Day 10
Today you will head back to Mfuwe airport for your flight to Lusaka to connect with your international flights.
