Kakuli is operated by Norman Carr safaris and is a great inclusion in a South Luangwa itinerary. The chalets are comprised of thatch roofs with grass sides and an interior tent, they are spacious and very comfortable and have great views out onto the Luangwa River, with an unfathomably large resident Hippo pod in the dry season.
The camp has been run by the incredibly experienced Aubrey Njubvo for the last 8 or so years, he is one of the Luangwa Valley’s most revered guides and one of the most amazing bird guides that I have ever been on safari with, I had the pleasure of working with Aubrey whilst working for Norman Carr in 2014.
Unlike other bushcamps it is open during the rains or ‘emerald season’, this delivers a completely different experience from a safari here in the dry season, offering boating safaris and walking safaris you can see all the same wildlife with an entirely new backdrop, on top of this it is the perfect time to be here for those keen on birds with the usual endemic species being bolstered by numerous migrating visitors…
