Itinerary
Day 1
On arrival in Nairobi you will be met and by your driver who will transfer you from the international airport across to the domestic airport, here you will take your light aircraft flight to the north of the country and the wild Meru National Park. This became the Kenya Wildlife Service’s major project in the 80’s, the area suffered heavily from poaching and was a “wild” part of the country, as such it fell off the tourism radar…now it is one of the least visited yet most pristine environments in the country.
You will stay the next 4 nights at Offbeat Meru, a lovely classic tented camp with a pool that is definitely appreciated in the hot summer months. Meru is a quite thick with vegetation in places and is best visited in the dry season when the undergrowth has started to die back.
Day 2-4
Meru National Park is one of Kenya’s premier parks in our view yet there are not many camps and few visitors compared to other parts of the country, however, for us this is a good thing, the sightings can be hard earned but they are worth it when you have them to yourself.
Day 5
Today you will be driven back to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight direct to the Masai Mara, flights sometimes make a few stops within the park which gives you incredible views as you fly low over this wilderness area. Your guide who will drive you up to the brilliant Offbeat Mara, a very traditional tented safari camp, will meet you at the airstrip and drive you through the conservancy to your camp.
Day 6-8
The camp is located in a private conservancy to the north of the main Masai Mara National Reserve, the Mara North is known to have some of the best wildlife densities in an area that is known for big cats. The safari experience here is more rustic than some but it is this very authentic way of doing things that is the main draw for us to Offbeat Safaris.
Day 9
Today you will be transferred to the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Nairobi for your onward arrangements.
