Northern Kenya in 2019
I hope that you have all had a wonderful Christmas and wishing you a fantastic New Year.
For those that follow us on social media you will have seen some posts from my recent trip to Kenya. This blog is going to give you a brief insight into my thoughts and a great starting point for a wonderful safari option in 2019. Have a read through this and then get in touch to find out if Kenya is right for your safari!
There are more in depth blogs on this trip to follow so keep your eyes out over the next few months on some awesome experiences, properties and initiatives going on in Kenya right now.
I spent most of this two week trip in Samburu County exploring National Reserves and Community Conservancies which all offer very different approaches and outlooks as well as incredibly varied habitat, wildlife, scenery and activities.
The main National Reserve in Samburu is the most wildlife dense part of this area, it is particularly great for Elephants in the height of the dry season but also wonderful for birds.
The Reserve itself can get a little busy so I would recommend staying in one of the properties in a conservancy that borders the reserve allowing visits in both areas the main area for the game and the reserve for wilderness. We work with two great properties in this respect, Saruni Samburu and Sasaab.
Further North there are some really amazing initiatives, community owned reserves making great strides in the collaboration between communities, local organisations and tourism ventures, I will definitely be writing a whole blog on this but two places to definitely consider including are Saruni Rhino and Sarara, both offering incredibly unique experiences.
I was Fortunate enough to then head South and stay at the brilliant Lewa Wildlife Conservancy at the lovely Lewa Wilderness. I had a whistle stop stay here but for those looking for an activity led experience that combines really well with a stay in the game drive focused Masai Mara and the cultural north then this area is fabulous and this property is one of our favourites….
There is so much to say about this incredible location so I will definitely be writing a blog on my short but fun filled stay here which was truly one of the most action packed, different and enjoyable in all the years I have been doing this, which says a lot!
What to combine
As always, which combination of properties and locations depends on you; your tastes and your goals. Often it is possible to achieve better value when combining properties owned, managed or marketed together and with every itinerary we aim to get the mix of the perfect properties at the best price and the right time of year for you. The best thing to do is to give us a call or drop an email and let us make a start.
