Duration: 5 Nights
When: June to November
Snapshot: One of our favourite itineraries led by one of our favourite guides in Africa. For anyone that has a bit of a sense of adventure and is passionate about Africa, wildlife and wilderness this is an incredible opportunity to experience a very unique safari.
Itinerary
Day 1
Pick up from Msembe airstrip or any other camp in the Park around lunchtime depending on plane schedules. A nice long game drive into the wilderness will ensue which may take up to 3 hours depending on the camp’s current location. With snacks and refreshments en route, arrive at Kichaka camp late afternoon or early evening and settle in after a warm welcome. You will spend the following 5 nights with the team at Kichaka.
Day 2
Early morning departure on foot after breakfast, then an approximately 10 km / 5 hr bush walk will ensue focusing on the highlights of the area. Depending on the route of choice, the group can either be picked up by vehicle or return to camp on foot.
Arrival at camp in time for lunch. For all Afternoon activities there is a choice, from learning about tracking, short walks into the vast Kopje and inselberg systems (huge rock outcrops), specialist birding, and normal game drives to name but a few.
Day 3
Another early departure on foot after breakfast as we push further into the wilderness on foot. Same distances and time involved as the day before and back to the base camp for lunch. This is usually an opportune moment (but of course not compulsory!), to incorporate the Kichaka Flycamp. After a discussion the previous night of the Parks current hotspots and game movements, the flycamp team will have spent the morning erecting our versatile little flycamp in a different location of the park. After packing a few items, the afternoon will be spent reaching the flycamp by either foot or car depending on its location.
Day 4
As the sun rises, a whole new area awaits to be explored. Again, depending on energy levels, this area can be explored by means of foot or vehicle as we search for more of the Park’s elusive inhabitants. Usually a welcome break back at the flycamp is in order and a freshly prepared lunch will await us on our return. The usual afternoon activities can then be chosen from, followed by an ice-cold sundowner before heading back to the flycamp for another night.
Day 5
A good way to fill up a day is to do a full days game drive. After a relaxed breakfast today, we can embark on a long distance exploration of the Park. Use of the vehicle helps us get further afield and again see new areas and new animals and can be a welcome respite from the walking side of things. A bush lunch will accompany us which will be cooked fresh at a picnic spot where we can eat and enjoy the views before continuing on our way. The return from the full day drive will take us back to the Kichaka base camp to spend the final night.
Day 6
A much deserved lie-in greets you on your last day and there is no hurry to make your way to breakfast. After your leisurely meal however we will make our farewells to the camp crew and make our way slowly to the Msembe area for the Scheduled flight, or a lunch time arrival at any other camp in the park.

POSSIBLE EXTENSIONS
- Zanzibar – Why not treat yourself to a few days relaxation before heading back to the real world…with a number of great options, if you have the time then a few days of down time is the perfect way to end this itinerary.
- Stone Town – This historic little town was once the capital city of Oman, it was the centre of the African slave trade and was also the staging post for many of the great explorations of Africas interior.
- More safari…. – Ruaha is most often combined with its closest neighbour the Selous, this may be because it makes sense logistically but the two areas contrast nicely for a great overall trip, however, for something truly different why not combine northern and southern Tanzania!?
