Safari Packing Guide
Packing for a safari can be a stressful affair for those who have not had the benefit of hindsight of packing way too much or taking the wrong things. We have this experience in spades and are here to help. The below is some guidance based on my upcoming trip to Namibia, this is a good guideline but can be adjusted, reduced, swapped around etc to better suit your requirements and itinerary.
All of the below comes in at a whopping 13.5kg, falling well within light aircraft luggage restrictions where these are applicable.
I have not included camera equipment in this blog as I will feature this in more detail in our next blog, this is simply about hold luggage.
Clothing
Most safari properties offer complimentary laundry which if you are staying for 3 nights can easily be washed, dried and pressed and returned to you, this makes packing light far easier than you imagine. The list below will depend on the season and the destination but gives you a good starting point.
- 2 safari shirts
- 3 t-shirts
- 3 evening shirts
- 1 light jumper
- 2 lightweight trousers
- 2 shorts
- 1 chino/jeans
- 1 swimwear
- 1 cap or hat
- 4 sets of underwear
- Flip Flops
- Desert boots
- Waterproof jacket (if traveling during or close to the rains)
As well as the above I would have the clothes that I am wearing which would usually consist of…
- Jeans or light trousers

- Boots or trainers
- thin insulated jacket or soft shell (if traveling to a higher altitude or somewhere cold)
