Wineland Winter Escapes

South Africa’s Western Cape is arguably one of the best places in the world to spend the long dark northern hemisphere winters. For this reason it gets booked up fast but we can still get some winter sun if you are looking to get some time away this coming winter. As long as you can be a bit flexible on dates and exact property then we will find you a fantastic escape.

We have picked out some of our favourite properties to get you inspired. These fall into two main categories, wine estates/vinyards and town properties, which you chose will depend on what sort of break you are looking for. If you want to escape and spend some time in solitude, walking through the hills and valleys of the winelands then a wine estate would be perfect, if you want to experience different restaurants and cafes and enjoy people watching then the tows of Franschhoek or Stellenbosch would be a great choice.

Boschendal

This is a great option for families and groups of adults because there are a number of cottages spread throughout the grounds. It is also one of the most picturesque locations in the Winelands.

Mont Rochelle

This is one of my top luxury picks in the Winelands, part of the Virgin Collection this is a classy, modern take on a wine estate. It is a bit more hotel like than many of the other estate style properties but this creates a nice buzz of an atmosphere.

Delaire Graff

The last of our wine estates is possibly the most opulent in Africa, this property is part hotel, part art gallery, part winery and part gourmet restaurant. If money is no object or you really want to spoil yourself then this is the place to do it, and what a way to spend the last few days of a South Africa holiday.

Le Quartier Francais

We have a soft spot for this very classical small hotel, it is a great location within walking distance of the centre of our favourite winelands town, with an excellent restaurant and offering great value, what is not to love.

The Last Word Franshhoek

Staying in Franschhoek, The Last Word Franshhoek is a wonderful luxury boutique option for those wanting to be close to other restaurants and the like rather than out in the tranquil countryside. There are definitely pros and cons to each so we can help you decide which is best for you.
