The Seychelles is one of the most pristine and diverse archipelagos in the Indian Ocean, consisting of well over 100 islands from large and developed to small and uninhabited with everything in between. This is one of our favourite destinations as either an add on to a safari or as a stand alone island hopping beach break.
The three larger islands of Mahe, Praslin and La Digue are made up of Granitic outcrops these are where the majority of the hotels are and where many people will spend most of their time. There are lots of options from big resorts to some smaller and more intimate properties, all located on lovely beaches. These islands are perfect for those that are more limited on time or as a starting point for those exploring a combination of a Granitic and Coral island.
The Coral Islands and those Granitic islands further afield and range from the simple eco friendly set ups such as Bird Island to the luxury of Fregate and North Island. Even the ultra luxurious islands still have a fantastic focus on conservation and protection of the wildlife that inhabits the islands making them a very special tropical sanctuary as well as one of the most exclusive and exciting beach holidays on the market.
Tom used to work as a Divemaster in the Seychelles and has a special passion for these islands so anything you want to know then drop us a line and let us help plan your trip to this tropical paradise.
The Seychelles is definitely a great year round destination, almost consistent air temperatures and water temperatures that only fluctuate by a few degrees through the year. There are two seasons in the Seychelles which are dictated by the winds, from May to October there is drier weather and a slight drop in temperature created by the South-East winds, from November to March the North-West wind brings higher rainfall and temperatures but calmer winds. Generally speaking April is a lull between and can be an amazing time to be here, but the real answer to when is best to travel depends on many factors.
As the Seychelles is fantastic as either a safari add-on or a stand alone beach destination there are many different ways to reach the islands. From the UK there are good flights through the Middle East and also direct with BA as of 2018. If you are combining the islands with a safari then there are flight links from Kenya and South Africa making it possible to add on to almost any Africa destination, although some may require a night in a hub city to connect.
Absolutely stunning and the perfect place to switch off and unwind, it is possible to visit the Seychelles and do nothing at all, having said that there is plenty to do for those looking to stay busy. We always like to combine a couple of islands to allow you to explore several areas, it is easy to rent a car on Mahe and Praslin and definitely worth getting into the interior of these islands along with the picturesque beaches, there is diving for the adventurous as well as sailing and kayaking.
