Namibia is a destination unlike any other that we visit, it is home to some of the most incredible scenery on the continent, some fantastic wildlife and arguably the best landscape photography opportunities in Africa. The most common way to explore Namibia is by road on an exciting yet straight forward self drive trip, it is possible to do this and stay at some stunning luxury properties that are growing in numbers or by combining elements of camping and luxury lodges, a great way to experience the country for the more adventurous. For those looking for a whistle stop and less involved trip it is possible to combine many of the luxury properties by light aircraft.
The diversity in the country is incredible, from Fish River Canyon in the South, the huge Dunes of the Namib desert (the most famous being Sossusvlei), to the German colonial town of Swakopmund on the edge of the Skeleton coast. Being wildlife fanatics we love the incredible Damaraland wilderness, Etosha in the north and the lush and fertile Caprivi Strip on the Botswana border.
Itineraries here are generally around two weeks or more for a good exploration of the highlights, however, if you are limited on time and willing to drop elements or to fly around the country then this can be shortened, alternatively if you have more time then you can get into some amazing remote areas.

Namibia is a country that is dominated by its dramatic desert landscapes, it is a rewarding and exciting place to visit and what time is best to be here will often depend on your goals. Our favourite times are April – May for great weather and some greenery left among the rugged landscapes of Etosha and the North West, this is the best time for landscape photography. For game viewing August – October is best, as the land dries out the wildlife becomes more reliant on permanent water sources and therefore easier to find, this time of year can be cool in the evenings but is often warm during the day. For those keen on birding then the Green Season of December – March in the Caprivi Region is fantastic.
The most common way to access Namibia is with British Airways or South Africa Airways through Johannesburg in South Africa, the alternatives are Lufthansa, KLM or Qatar although these are often either more expensive or involve longer overall journey times, however, it is worth comparing the options at the time of booking. All flights arrive in the capital of Windhoek where you can pick up your hire car or meet with your bush pilot to begin your adventure.
Namibia is an amazing country to explore either by road or from the air, whichever way you decide there are plenty of great locations to visit and many activities along the way from quad-biking, living desert tours and sand dune boarding to the most authentic cultural experiences in Africa with the Himba, desert Rhino tracking in Damaraland and a visit to a wildlife rehabilitation centre in Okanjima…plus loads more.
