Mozambique is pretty much approaching paradise when it comes to beach breaks in our opinion. Stunning islands, small properties, incredible underwater wildlife…..it is basically the beach version of how we like our safari and bush experiences. See below for a brief overview of Safari in Mozambique…
We focus on the northern part of Mozambique, this is simply because it is hands down our favourite part of the country and home to the kind of beaches and landscapes that spring to mind when you first imagine Mozambique. However, we do also operate in other areas of the country, so if you have special interests then let us know and we can make suggestions on the off chance that there is not something in the north that fits the bill for you.
One of the things that most people find surprising about Mozambique is its rich culture and history, both Ibo Island and Ilha de Mocambique have incredible old Portugese buildings and a rich history, we love wondering around these islands and learning all about how Africa was impacted on by the colonial era occupations and the creation and protection of trade routes.
The diving in the north of Mozambique is also great, in fact, probably the best in Africa. It is one of the few places that we would suggest that serious divers will find worthwhile, unfortunately a lot of diving in Africa is over sold and under delivers, but this is definitely not what we have found with Mozambique.
Dhow Safaris
Mobile dhow safari, simply one of the most fun and adventurous things that you can do in Africa today. A crewed Arab dhow and a simple camp, great food, great beaches and some amazing memories. Currently available in very few places but Northern Mozambique offers the most incredible and remote experience out there, we like this so much, possibly because it mirrors the safaris that we love so much..
So for something different and a bit of relaxation why not get in touch to talk about your Dhow adventure.
Mozambique is one of the most interesting up and coming safari destinations and in the next few years we hope that it is going to continue to open up and become more accessible. At the moment there are limited accommodation options but it really is the wildest and most remote region for those that are willing to explore.
Gorongosa National Park
The biggest conservation regeneration project in Africa with a huge amount of private money being invested with the assistance of the government to rejuvenate this once great wildlife destination to its former glory. Before the civil war Gorongosa was a much visited haven for Lion and Elephant but unfortunately during the conflict it suffered at the hands of poachers taking game for both funds and food. The fascinating thing about the project is the way in which it is being approached, with a completely ground up view to building the wildlife stocks.
Because the area is so vast you cannot simply ‘restock’ the park with big game, you must work on everything from the smallest up to the largest to create sustainable populations that will be able to survive, reproduce and grow..
Niassa
One of the most incredible wilderness areas that we know, this is the sort of place that you go to get lost, to really get away from everything. It is a really great place but it is not for those looking to see high densities of wildlife. There is currently only one camp in operation in this area and it works best when linked up with one of the idyllic islands in the northern Quirrimbas Archipelago.
If you are interested in including a safari in Mozambique in an itinerary then give us a call to talk more about this incredible destination.
