For us Flatdogs is a very unique place in Zambia, good guiding and great service but it is the value that makes it stand out. Over the past couple of seasons a few camps have started appearing on the outside of the park but Flatdogs is the old guard and as such has the best location and the most experienced crew…It is one of the few places outside the gate that we can wholeheartedly recommend for all of these reasons.
The camp is a bit larger than a lot in Zambia, however, we don’t think that it feels big, the tents are spread out and when you are in your tent you feel just as you should when you are on safari. If offers a great option for many, especially photographers and also for families, with two fantastic private units that make for a great family experience.
Unusually for a safari camp Flatdogs offers an A La Carte menu, this is because the camp offers two types of rates, a room only package and a safari package (we use the safari package). This set up would normally be very difficult to manage in Africa but as well as overseeing building, maintenance and accounts Ade can often be found in the kitchen teaching the chefs his latest dish and the whole thing just works!
Flatdogs is most often combined with Lion Camp in the remote northern area of the park and it is a great inclusion for photographers on a longer stay wanting to explore a couple of areas, it works well for this as the money you save on the camp can be used to put towards a private vehicle and/or a photographic guide which makes all the difference in getting those sought after shots.
