Lion Camp was completely rebuilt in 2017 and reopened for the 2018 season, the premise of the camp remains the same but with a renewed and improved style and a commitment to being as eco sensitive as possible.
Lion Camp has two stand out features for us, its location is absolutely fantastic overlooking a plain and watering hole with some of the best game that Zambia has to offer right on its doorstep and a price point that offers the best value for money in the country.
The camp is on a series of raised walkways with each chalet on its own platform and wildlife often passes through including Bushbuck, Elephants and (of course) Lions. The standard of the accommodation is very high, each chalet is well decorated, has standing fans, a deck that overlooks the plains, and en suite. The main area is very comfortable with the unusual added bonus of a swimming pool. The food and hosting are both excellent, all in all this is a gem in a beautifully remote location.
The guiding is good and private vehicles can be arranged (at an extra cost). The game in this area is exceptional and on top of this its location means that you do not share your sightings with as many people as you would in other areas of the park. For photographers this is one of our top spots, longer stays with a private guide open up amazing opportunities.
It is a bit much of a lodge for some and we would usually agree, but because of the whole package that Lion Camp offers it is pretty hard to beat in this part of the park. For purists and walking enthusiasts there are more rustic bushcamps but for those that just want a great safari and good value then this is a great option.
