Top 3 experiential Zambia operators

My love for raw and wild safaris is no secret, there is nothing more pleasing than being in truly isolated wilderness area with few people around and only nature and a select few companions for company. Being in such areas lends itself perfectly to exploring in a more experiential way.

This is a term that is used a lot these days but what does it mean?

To us it means not just moving around by vehicle but by boat or canoe and of course on foot, where your senses are heightened and smells, sounds and the all intricacies that make up the bush that have drifted by previously unnoticed are now brought to the fore. In essence something that is experiential engages your senses, it will often but not always involve being more active but it will frequently be the highlight of your trip…

Tusk and Mane – Lower Zambezi

A relative newcomer as a company but the two passionate young guides are anything but new, they are experienced, professional and immensely well centred with a focus on their guests experience while benefitting the wilderness, wildlife and people that they are responsible for.

A fly camp like no other – If you like an adventure and stepping outside your comfort zone or are simply a big fan of camping this will be one of the most memorable experiences of your life. I love this concept, two unique campsites with comfortable lightweight fly camping set up having a minimal impact on the surroundings and allowing access into a stunning remote part of the Lower Zambezi.

Jeffery and McKeith Safaris – Kafue

With another two young guides determined to protect and develop their corner of Zambia the country is truly blessed to have captured the hearts of some of the most visionary young conservationists.

Jeffery & McKeith Safaris operate two camps in Kafue National Park which despite being only a road transfer from Lusaka is one of the countries least visited wild areas which is why it is one of my favourite places. Their base camp of Musekese and satalite Ntemwa offer contrasting but equally comfortable surroundings spending a week between these two camps makes a great stand alone Zambia itinerary or part of a larger exploration.

Remote Africa Safaris – Luangwa Valley

The longest operating of our three top picks this family run business is now in the hands of the second generation with Jennifer and her fiancé Nick now involved in continuing the fantastic work done by John and Carol Coppinger since 1995. With Jennifer having been born in the Luangwa the ties to this area are strong and the passion of this family are clear.

They run 5 intimate and authentic camps in the Luangwa Valley, consisting of two in the most remote part of the ecosystem, North Luangwa, their base camp Tafika in the Nsefu sector and two camps in the South Luangwa that make a fantastic walking itinerary making your way between these three on foot.
