Top 5 Serengeti Mobile Camps

There are some fantastic properties throughout the Serengeti, varying in style greatly, our favourite type for safari is authentic tented camps which we split into higher spec permanent camps and mobile camps that move through the year with the migration.

In this blog I am going to highlight a few of the great options for camps that move with the Wildebeest from the South in the start of the year for the calving season and then on to the central or western Serengeti before ending up in the north as they finally make their way to Kenya and the Masai Mara crossing the Mara Rive on the way. My favourite part of this fabulous eco system is the northern corner of the Serengeti and it is arguably one of the most rewarding places to catch the migration.

Serengeti Safari Camp

Simply put this is probably one of my favourite camps in East Africa, as with all the properties in this blog it belongs to a safari operator that own a number of camps in northern Tanzania, this is one of the top operators in the country with a focus not on having ultra luxury but on having the best quality of guiding along with great standards of hospitality in understated style…

Nasikia Tented Camp

This is one of our top camps for those on a driving circuit of the north with their own private driver, we really like to use this when we are using our amazing guides and vehicles from Takims. The camp is a medium specification tented operation but the service and offering here is much more akin to the higher priced options which is why we love this for a mix of value and quality. Combine this with either its sister camps in other areas or properties of a similar standard of different styles to make a truly varied itinerary.

Kimondo Camp

A gorgeous high specification mobile camp owned by another great company, this combines with its sister properties in the Tarangire and Ngorongoro to make a simply sublime top end authentic safari, yes it has its luxury touches but this is still a camp for people that want to experience safari as it should be with a classic styles combined with modern perfectly.

Kati Kati Camp

For those wanting a tented mobile experience that gets you into the right place at the right time at great value you really would find it hard to beat this property. Small and intimate and tented this ticks all the boxes, it may be simple and the cuisine and service less refined than some of the other properties in this blog but with our great private driver guides this becomes a great place to lay your head and still have the out of Africa experience with a much lower price tag than some of the alternatives.

Alex Walker’s Serian

If you are looking for a camp with true focus on the wildlife experience and the guiding then this is most certainly the camp for you. It is a top end camp owned by one of the most well respected guides in East Africa. The ethos here is simple, get back to the wild spaces and places, look after them and appreciate them, while the price tag is high the experience exceeds it..
